National Eat Your Vegetables Day with Vegetarian Catering
National Eat Your Vegetable Day falls in the middle of National Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Month. Today’s celebration is about allowing us all the opportunity to remind ourselves to continue with this as part of a healthy diet.
We all know why we should eat our five a day: Vegetables are nourishing, and full of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that are great for your overall health and vitality. But this day is a reminder to look out for fresh and local vegetables too and create new habits as the best vegetables become available.
What better time to incorporate these into our diet than in June when the weather is getting warmer and it’s the season when many vegetables are in their prime and at their tastiest?
The many benefits of using fresh, locally sourced vegetables
The benefits of using fresh locally sourced vegetables as we do, are enormous. Firstly, locally sourced food is fresher and more delicious. It means we can keep up our commitment to using high-quality ingredients too. It also helps us to support local businesses and keeps us in touch with the seasons.
The list of vegetables in season in June is pretty long but to name a few, we recommend that you check out some of the following for their amazing taste and health properties.
We’ll start with Spinach which is high in iron, artichokes for their antioxidant properties and broad beans packed with protein. We’d also recommend lettuce for its low calorie and high water content making it perfect for hydration and weight management, and new potatoes which are a great source of potassium and vitamin C making them great for your immunity.
Selecting the best produce for yourself
Selecting the best produce for yourself is a skill you can acquire if you haven’t done so already! Some tips for selecting the best produce include looking for vibrant colours, checking for firmness and smelling the produce first. Flexitarian, vegetarian and vegan dishes
You don’t have to be a vegetarian to enjoy a flavourful meal or vegetarian catering. Although we have popular vegetarian and vegan dishes across our different catering styles, we have seen a rise in flexitarianism too. This is a diet that encourages eating more plant-based foods while still allowing for meat which has made it easier for everyone to incorporate more vegetables into their diet, which we think is great.
Because we are bespoke we can tailor our menus to your exact requirements, including vegetarian catering.
From our Mediterranean vegetable skewers to our tender stem broccoli, feta and English pea tartlets, we have something to suit every taste bud across our varied sample menus.
We pride ourselves on creating bespoke menus too, tailored to your specific needs and preferences. So if you’re planning a special event, we can help you find the perfect options. We’ve got you covered from adding extra greens to your pizza to creating an entirely vegetarian menu.
